Kashyap won all of his matches at the group stage, surprising the world with his defeat of Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh. In the Pre-quarters he knocked out Sri Lanka's Niluka Karunaratne by 21–16, 15–21, 21–14. It was not until the Quarterfinals when Kashyap's incredible Olympic tournament came to an end after his loss to top seed Lee Chong Wei in straight sets.
