Plugged into the Power Source
John 1:4-5 tells us:
“In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Light is powerful and will always win over darkness. Imagine a dark, pitch-black room. The door is sealed closed and the windows are blackened out. It is as dark as it possibly could be. You can’t see your hand in front of your face. But enter in with a flashlight, a candle or turn on a lamp. It changes everything. You are able to see around you. Darkness has lost. No matter what darkness tries, it cannot overcome this one source of light.
Jesus is our source of light.
John 8:12 tells us:
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
Notice what Jesus says, “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness.” This requires action on our part. Once we have the light, we cannot be idle. Lights go dim when we get distracted or lights will even go out if we inadvertently unplug from the power source. To keep our light burning, we must remain plugged in by spending time daily with God in prayer and reading His word.
Electricity is our modern power source. When we lose electricity at our home and the lights go out, the power source didn’t go away...it is still there. There has just been a disconnection to the source. Once that disconnection has been restored, the lights come back on. The power source we have in God our Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit will never stop being available to us. We are the only ones who can disconnect or be distracted from the power source.
Light bulbs are our main device for light. When a light bulb goes out, we replace it. The power source didn't go away. The bulb failed or wore out. Just as bulbs are not flawless, so we are not flawless. We are human. We will mess up. But we can replace the light bulb. We can reconnect to the source we have in Jesus and we will be filled with the light, our light will shine again, and it will shine brighter than the old bulb, brighter than the “old” us.
Apostle Peter tells us in 1 Peter 2:9,
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
So let us continue to walk in His Marvelous Light each and every day by remaining plugged into God’s word, plugged into prayer and keeping our minds plugged into the things above.
