Woodworkers always seem to be making or modifying their own tools and hand planes are a common tool for this. Block planes, Jack Planes, Fore Planes and Smoothing Planes all have their own uses but the smaller ones seem to get the most use. There are many excellent hand planes on the market like Lie-Nielsen, Veritas from Lee Valley but one of the most common planes are the Stanley planes which is the one we are working on here. We discovered that the blade was not really worth much effort in this one so eventually we will replace it with a much higher quality one. In the mean time, check out the process of refurbishing and cleaning up an old steel plane.
