Volcano alert raised to highest level as Mount Semeru erupts in Indonesia

The Indonesian authorities raised the volcano alert to the highest level after Mount Semeru erupted on Java Island, spewing a plume of ash 15km high. Around 2,000 people were evacuated from the areas surrounding the volcano.
