Whiskas is a cat food brand. Whiskas is owned by a large company called Mars, Inc. The hallmark of this brand is its always purple packaging featuring a British shorthair cat. Whiskas is produced using selected ingredients such as beef, pork, poultry, fish, vegetables, cereals (rice, etc.), offal, vitamins, and minerals.[1]

History
Whiskas, was originally known as Kal Kan and began manufacturing pet food in 1936 from its headquarters near Los Angeles, California. Then gradually expand its operations throughout the United States. In 1958, he entered the UK market with the Whiskas brand, which later expanded throughout Europe.

This company was purchased by Mars Inc. in 1968,[2] and became a subsidiary of Petfoods Ltd (later renamed Pedigree Petfoods).

In 1989, Kat Kan changed its US name to Whiskas, to keep it under one international brand (in line with their European operations) and to help unify ad campaigns globally. Although Kal Kan has more brand equity in the US, "Whiskas" is also perceived by consumers as a more preferable and "cat-sounding" name.
