On September 27, 2022, the City Island Civic Association hosted a community meeting on City Island in the Bronx to address concerns about temporary housing for migrants being erected in the parking lot at Orchard Beach. City Council Member Marjorie Velázquez and Department of Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol spoke at the event, and community members asked questions and voiced their concerns.

The temporary tent housing at Orchard Beach will be one of New York City's Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers, housing about 1,000 asylum seekers for up to 96 hours each.
