Summary of 5 key points in the new US security strategy
Hello friends. On October 12, 2022, the administration of US President - Joe Biden announced a new National Security Strategy. This is the first time the Biden administration has announced a national security strategy since taking office. The old National Security Strategy has been in existence since 2017, under former President Donald Trump.
The Biden administration's national security strategy was due to be released in 2021, but has been delayed due to the impact of the Ukraine crisis. The NSS National Security Strategy was first introduced under former President Ronald Reagan, in 1987.
This is a document prepared periodically by the executive branch of the US government that lists national security concerns and how the administration plans to address them. The national security strategy this time of President Biden's administration is 48 pages long, with the main content that: America is in the decisive decade to advance important interests.
During this period, the United States will invest domestically, to strengthen its socio-economic and national defense, to develop increasingly strong alliances, and to modernize and strengthen its military. Here are five key takeaways from the report. First, China is the biggest “geopolitical challenge”. The US National Security Strategy considers China to be the most dangerous, geopolitical challenge.
This is unchanged from the previous administration of Donald Trump, but emphasizes that: America is in the midst of a strategic competition to shape the future of the international order. Thus, not Russia, China has always been the target of the US within the past decade.
The United States sees China as its sole competitor, intent on reshaping the international order and increasingly has the economic, diplomatic, military, and technological power to do so. In response to this, Washington said it would help countries counterbalance China, without "reciprocity". Second, contain Russia.
