The word 'pandemic' is currently being associated with the global spread and impact of Covid-19. But it was preceded by another pandemic - that of HIV and AIDS - which is still going on. After many decades, there is still no HIV vaccine, but more recently there have been significant scientific breakthroughs in the fight to prevent infection.
