Darby In a Life Time Reg Fleming

To so many known as, Uncle Darby McCarthy, honored with the award of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

This is a story for a young man who came from Cunnamulla in outback Queensland to enter the international arena and be fully accepted as a gifted expert in his chosen profession.
A story which shows what a person can achieve when faced with seeming insurmountable odds, but with grit and determination and self-belief they can achieve possibly far more than they could have ever imagined.

Told by Darby and through the interviews and recollections of those who have known and worked with him over his racing career, and then on through his post racing career, where Darby become a mentor for many young people supporting their endeavors through incentive and educational programs specifically initiated by Darby McCarthy, who received an honorary doctorate from the Southern University of Queensland for this work, an OAM (order of Australia award) from the Australian Government, also named one of Queensland’s "Greats" (by the Queensland Government) and on the 14th May 2021 inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame (twelve months after passing into his dreamtime)
Darby would say, not bad for a “Young Fella” from Cunnamulla who didn’t go to school.
