‌Is Twitch enabling the unhealthy “grind” culture?
In a recent stream, Twitch Streamer, NorthernLion, opened up about an email he had received from Twitch after not accessing the platform for a week. He claims the email stated “chat misses you” and felt that it was “emotionally manipulative” .
This is a huge concern due to the “grind” culture that has become ingrained in streamers on the platform. The unhealthy expectations that streamers can set upon themselves to always be “on” and live streaming can and does cause severe burn out and effects streamers mental wellbeing.
With only the top 0.01% of streamers making above minimum wage, could practices like this cause Twitch to unintentionally be fueling the fire behind streamers feeling the need to sacrifice basic human needs to “grind” and find success?
