Bitcoin retreated after rising as high as $17,300. The currency hovered around the $16,900 level Thursday afternoon after climbing 2.5% on Wednesday. The world's largest cryptocurrency has climbed off two-year lows, even as fears of a liquidity contagion stemming from the FTX bankruptcy continue to rattle the industry. Bitcoin traded above $21,000 at the beginning of the month, prior to the unraveling of FTX.

Ethereum is holding near $1,270 and just below mid-November highs after rebounding more than 4.5% Wednesday. The #2 crypto traded above $1,600 prior to the FTX crash.
