The Mallets tell the story ..

Drummers use a variety of implements to create different tonal sounds on a drum or set of drums. It is our way of forming a unique sonic impact within a song or in this case soloing. The first time I heard mallets on a trap kit was seeing Elvin Jones he used them within a song and soloing in that same song .
All the tones of his drums and cymbals blended together to form an orchestra of mellow and bright sounds swirling loudly around then subdued as Elvin lowered the intensity to a low whisper and then increased the intensity again .
He was a Master of his craft ..
A small but heart felt tribute to the one I still admire today.
