Mauna Loa continued its fiery eruption on Wednesday on Hawaii’s Big Island sending torrents of molten rock towards the Island's main highway.

Lava and fumes were seen rising from the world's largest active volcano during its first eruption in 38 years, while cars were also seen cruising on Saddle Road, also known as Daniel K. Inouye Highway, 4.5 miles (7.2 kilometres) away.

The eruption began late Sunday night, with lava flows becoming visible on Monday. Scientists expect the eruption to last for two weeks.
