REITS And The Downfall Of Affordable Housing In Canada

This may be an unpopular and not so commonly held opinion, but here goes... Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) could just be a viable solution to increasing social/affordable housing in Canada, while at the same time improving the living conditions that some government run housing projects have struggled with in recent years.

In this video, Surrey Real Estate Specialist, Steve Karrasch of Macdonald Realty discusses a recent news story of residents in a Toronto Community Housing complex being forced out of their homes, after an engineers report concluded that 154 townhouse units at the complex are in an unsafe condition to live in and why he believes REITs could play a role in helping to improve living conditions in social/affordable housing projects in Canada.
