COS Action Maryland 2nd Annual Student Essay Contest for the 2023 Legislative Session

The Convention of States Maryland team is excited to announce the second annual Student Essay Contest! Maryland students currently in grades 6-12 are eligible to write and submit an 800-1000 word essay answering one of the following three questions.

1. Why are term limits important, and what potential impact would term limits for elected and appointed positions have in government?

2. What do you think it means to be a citizen activist, and why is participation in our government so important?

3. What is Federalism and why did the Founders and Framers of our system of government design a system of Federalism for America?

The essay deadline is Friday, January 13. Please submit essays to Nichole Weakley (nichole.weakley@cosaction.com).

Essay writers are invited to attend COS Action Maryland's Citizen Action Day in Annapolis, typically held in late January, joining the COS team in meeting with state lawmakers. Winners will be invited to join the COS team for testifying during the 2023 legislative session and their essays will be published on the COS Action website.
