Canada: Liberal MPs face questions on Alberta sovereignty bill – November 30, 2022

Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal party holds its weekly caucus meeting. Ministers Dominic LeBlanc (intergovernmental affairs), Sean Fraser (immigration), Jean-Yves Duclos (health), Kamal Khera (seniors), and Marco Mendicino (public safety), as well as Mark Holland (government House leader), Anthony Housefather and Arif Virani face questions about Alberta Premier Danielle Smith's sovereignty bill aimed at protecting provincial interests. Smith introduced Bill 1, the Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act, on November 29 as the new fall sitting of the provincial legislature got underway.
Parliamentary secretary Jaime Battiste is asked about concerns over a Liberal amendment to C-21, the federal government’s gun-control bill, that would expand the list of prohibited firearms.
