Forgotten Fathers - Special Report By Manila Chan

This 30-minute special first aired in 2018 after months of research by investigative journalist, Manila Chan. Numerous experts were consulted in the production of this piece. It explores the ugly side of the family court system whose judges still operate based on outdated gender roles and stereotypes that disadvantage men (dads). "The tender years doctrine", antiquated laws, and unfair federal guidelines for child support, undermine the idea that men and women were created equal, and especially under the auspices of a court of law - should be treated as equals. Family court is the Wild West, where judges have very few rules to follow. This special helps to explain why fathers are "visitors" in the lives of their children, or sometimes are forced out and disappeared from their lives altogether.

My sincerest "thank you" to the men who bravely shared their personal stories of heartbreak with me. It will be better someday. -- Manila
