Wikipedia Plot...
The Enterprise is en route to Deep Space Station K-7 to deliver power supplies when it receives another assignment: investigate the missing USS Peregrine. While Number One and Ortegas remain on Enterprise, the rest of the bridge crew and several security officers take shuttles to an ice planet where they find the Peregrine crashed on there, mostly intact. Hemmer and Uhura restore Peregrine's systems; Pike searches the captain's logs and discovers the ship was carrying three refugees. One had damaged the ship after realizing he was infected with Gorn eggs, which hatched, burst from his chest and fought him; another meets a similar fate, after the medical staff are unable to discover Gorn life signs. Spock conjectures that the Gorn had evolved to evade Starfleet sensors; La'an observes the hatchlings fighting each other until the strongest one wins. The crew turn them against each other, but not before a Gorn lays eggs in Hemmer's body, leading to him abandoning the crew for the planet's cold to prevent the eggs spreading. The crew mourn Hemmer and leave the ice planet; La'an resigns to help the surviving refugee.

Wiki Cast
Anson Mount as Christopher Pike: captain of the USS Enterprise. The writers took Mount's own leadership style as inspiration for the character. Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman explained that Mount liked to find consensus within a group, and so a table was added to Pike's quarters where he could convene the crew and cook for them.
Ethan Peck as Spock: science officer aboard the Enterprise
Jess Bush as Christine Chapel: a civilian nurse on the Enterprise. Co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers felt the character's portrayal in The Original Series came from a "very different conception of women and of marriage and what people would do in their jobs" that present-day audiences would not expect, and sought to tell new stories with a character inspired by Bush's strengths.
Christina Chong as La'an Noonien-Singh: the Enterprise's newly assigned chief of security and a relative of Ricardo Montalbán's Star Trek villain Khan Noonien Singh
Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura: a cadet on the Enterprise specializing in linguistics. Despite the character's important role throughout the Star Trek franchise, the writers felt that there was a lot still unknown about her that could be explored.
Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas: the Enterprise's helmsman. Her surname is a reference to the original Star Trek pitch which included a navigator named Jose Ortegas.
Babs Olusanmokun as M'Benga: the Enterprise's chief medical officer
Bruce Horak as Hemmer: the Enterprise's chief engineer. Hemmer is an Aenar, which are an albino subspecies of Andorians that are generally depicted as blind; Horak is blind in one eye with limited sight in the other.
Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley / Number One: first officer of the Enterprise and second-in-command to Pike
