Keeping Dogs Away From Snowy Plover Nests_2

One of the biggest threats to Western snowy plovers in Washington is disturbance or predation from dogs. Each spring, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and our state partners place closure signs in the nesting areas of these federally threatened and state endangered birds. These closures protect the ground-nesting birds from not only human disturbance, but also dogs. Please give these rare birds a fighting chance by keeping dogs out of the closure areas and on-leash in the vicinity.
