Online insults in Japan could land you in prison
2 years ago
Japan is passing a new law that could punish you with up to a year in jail for insulting someone online.
Or you could also be fined up to about $2200 US, so remember.
You should only insult people in person.
Now cyberbullying is a big issue, but such vague laws can be really scary.
I mean there’s no definition for what an online insult is.
So technically you could be charged just by calling someone an idiot.
Anyways the law will be reexamined in three years to determine if it’ll impact freedom of expression.
