From Home Schooling to the IV League with Dr. Carline Crevecoeur

Dr. Carline Crevecoeur is a retired Haitian American board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist. After a couple of years of medical service in New York and Pennsylvania, she gave up her career to raise and homeschool her five children. Dr. Crevecoeur’s homeschool journey is the basis of her memoir: Pressure Makes Diamonds: From Homeschooling to the Ivy League – A Parenting Story.

She speaks about blending the roles of private school teacher and stay-at-home mother as she helps her kids achieve at the highest level while dealing with struggles of her own.

Although she had planned to return to her beloved profession after her children were grown, a cancer diagnosis in 2012 sidelined her plans and forced her to retire permanently.

Dr. Crevecoeur is one of the newest members of the State College Area School Board. Her election in November of 2022 led to her becoming the first person of color elected to the board. She has also recently become the co-president of the American Association of University Women.
