Is your dog waking you up in the morning before you want to get out of bed? Do you know this behavior is ON YOU? Sure it may start out with them but by allowing this behavior you are reinforcing it where it becomes part of their unwanted behavior. For example, if your dog starts barking at 5am so you get up to take care of them instead of just letting them bark you have just taught them that they wake up and bark and you will take care of them. The more you do this the more this learned behavior is instilled in them. Your dog should work around YOUR schedule not vice versa. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO PUPPIES as puppies cannot hold their pee very long. If you ignore your dog barking at 5am day after day, week after week, they EVENTUALLY learn that barking will not get them what they want and one day you will have a dog that will stop waking you up in the early morning. Every dog is different so some may take longer to learn this new behavior. And the longer you have given into your dog the longer it could take to break this bad habit. Remember that you are always training your dog to do something you want them to do or inadvertently training them to act in a way you do not approve of. But it truly all comes down to you.
