Good question.
$12,000 is a great price for a good mentor. It is a fantastic price. In some cases mentoring prices can range from $100,000 to as much as $1,000,000.
More expensive mentors often have higher quality mentoring. This is not always true but price can be one indication of the quality of a mentor. Most truly successful mentors that have actually made money in the real world are going to charge much larger fees. This is to be expected. But just because a person charges 12,000 or 50,000 or $100,000 it does not mean they are going to be a good mentor for you or that their mentoring will be better.
However, you should understand that the fact that the mentor is charging $12,000 shows he values his time at that level compared to a mentor that might charge only $5,000 or even do “free” mentoring. This likely means the mentor has a lot of experience and can show you things you will be able to learn from.
This is purely driven by supply and demand where the people that give free mentoring often don’t have the same opportunity cost of someone that is actively dealing with a lot of deals and may have more experience. There also are older and retired mentors but a lot of times while they might be cheaper they don’t have a pulse on what works in the market today.
To them since they often have more time on their hands, they are in a position to provide free mentoring. It does not mean that people that provide free mentoring are not good, but it can be a clue about how they value their time.
12,000 to me for a real estate mentor program sounds reasonable. It can be even higher, much higher. However, you need to not just look at price, you also need to consider if the person is someone you want to learn from and would inspire you to do more.
Mentors don’t just provide information and guidance they also should have an ability to inspire you to reach higher levels in business including helping you to open doors.
Depending on what you are wanting to learn, it might make sense to look at some other mentors before you make a final decision.
I hope that helps and good luck with your investing!
