Adventure 10, Part 2: Don't Die Before Supper's Ready

Temperatures far below freezing, and a harsh windchill making things even more difficult. First order of business, get out of the wind, recuperate some energy, get a fire going, and get something warm into me: Something I'm going to start calling Practical Woodsman Stew. The ingredients always change, but the process does not.

An important conversation about two principles I live by out in the woods: Modesty and Flexibility. They can save your life.

I'm using my favorite of all water bottle & mug combos: The infamous BCB British Canteen, Osprey 58 pattern, with the BCB NATO Crusader Cup that is perfection. The lid I use is a stainless steel canteen cup lid from Rothco that I bought off of Amazon and bent the outer lip on using pliers. My knife is a Mountain Lion from the Pathfinder Knife Shop. The kettle you see me using here is the kettle of my dreams: The iBasingo (Boundless Voyage) 1.4 L Titanium Kettle. Sleeping bag is a nearly 15-year-old Zero Degree goose down bag from Cabella's. Tent is the floorless Luxe Hexpeak 2P Tipi, my favorite for winter because of its simplicity, common-sense design, strength, and versatility. My buddy is using the Boreal 21 folding saw, which I own but no longer carry. I much prefer the Silky Gomboy 240, which you will see sticking out of my back pocket. It's a fraction of the weight and bulk of the Boreal 21 and does just as fine a job in the right hands, in my humble opinion.

Something new I tried out on the morning of this trip was the Big Blue 28W Solar Charger. I wanted to see how it would perform on an overcast day. It didn't charge as fast as it does on a sunny day, of course. But it still performed, to my surprise.
