The two animals battled for what seemed like hours, until finally the lion gave up and fled, diving into a nearby lake to hide from the victorious antelope.

They are still occasionally defeated by prey, particularly highly defensive ones.A lioness recently learned this lesson the hard way when she tried to take down an East African black antelope. Like any other hunt, it appeared that this would be an easy meal for the lioness. But the black antelope quickly demonstrated that he was not an easy person to take down.The antelope immediately demonstrated the utility of its curved horns by piercing the lioness's flesh while actively pointing them backwards. The lioness finally gave up on its prey after a long struggle because it was in so much pain.
