My teacher said if I wanted to get rich I need to get good grades. What does Benjamin Z Miller say?

Good question.

Your teacher means well but getting good grades in high school has at best a small correlation to success later in life. The type of student that can get good grades tends to do better in corporate income jobs. These jobs often pay a higher salary.

However, to be successful in investing and putting deals together, in some cases the students that get lower grades may have a far greater ability for this and outperform the students getting higher grades.

Some students that get low grades are receiving low grades for not turning in assignments on time or studying properly. Some of these students may have a tendency to prioritize what they want to do over being a good student. They basically choose to do what they want to do.

This tendency to prioritize what you want to do in some cases
will later in life make someone more successful. But this is only the case of people that are driven and working hard on their own projects and dreams and not so much the student that just is lazy.

There is nothing wrong with getting good grades but it absolutely won’t make you rich. Many of my friends that got good grades I later hired over the years.

If you want to be a doctor or dentist or lawyer, yes, it is important to get good grades. But it is not that important for making a lot of money.

I hope that helps and good luck with your investing!
