“Watchman or Hireling”
18th in our series the Prophet Zephaniah

I. The Watchman on the Wall - Ezekiel 3:17-21
* A. The Prophet is one such Watchman - Zephaniah 3:3-4
* 1. Prophet should speak the weighty matters of God to the people 
* a. Instead they’ve chosen to speak fluff instead of hard truth - Isaiah 56:10
* b. Their attitude is to reject the truth - Jeremiah 27:14-15
* c. They prophecy that God will not judge the wicked nation - Jeremiah 28:15
* d. Test of a true prophet Jeremiah 28:9; Deut 18:22
* 2. The false prophets were insolent, treacherous people
* B. The Priests represent God before the people and the people in the presence of God  - Zephaniah 3:4
* 1. These pollute the worship of the One True God
* 2. Making what is holy impure
* C. Disciples of Jesus Christ today are the priests - 1 Peter 2:9
* 1. We are charged with representing people before God - intercessory prayer
* 2. We also represent God before the people - leading the lost to repent, believe and receive

II. Both Prophet and Priest do violence to God’s Law - Zephaniah 3:4
* A. They personally violate God’ Law thus teaching by example for those who follow them to do the same - Ezekiel 22:26
* 1. They confuse people regarding what is right and wrong, what is good and evil, clean and unclean
* 2. By profaning God’s Law, they profane God Himself
* B. In the minds of the people they make God’s Law a nullity, teaching people that man makes Law not God
* C. We are to love the truth, live the truth & proclaim the truth
