The commander of a tank company in the 1st Slavic Brigade with the call sign "Char" told our correspondent how he became a tank commander at the beginning of the war in Donbass in 2014.

▪️"I've been fighting since 2014, right away on the tank. There was no experience of anyone, two years in the "Tanks played. Gives some knowledge of tanks, came in handy. What is armor, what is the angle and so on."

▪️"When I got on a real machine - stopped playing. You don't end up in a hangar if you get hit".

▪️"A friend called me on July 17. I came, there was a subversion and assault unit. I talked to their company officer. He said - stay here, you haven't held a machine gun in your hands. And when we come back - we'll see".

Then the machine-gunner built them up and told them that he was a tank-man now. At first "Char" was a gunner, then a tank commander. Then a platoon commander. Now he's a company commander.

"That's how I'm growing," he tells correspondent Vladimir Razin.
