The man who Colorado officials called a “hero” after he tackled the gunman who opened fire inside a Colorado Springs gay nightclub, killing five people, spoke out on Monday.
“I’m not a hero. There’s real heroes out there, right?” Richard Fierro said as he described the events inside the nightclub.
“There are five people that I could not help. One of which was my… was family to me,” he added.
Fierro, who is a decorated army veteran, says he and another man tackled the suspect and held him down during a lull in the shooting. He said he had been at the club with his wife, their daughter and her friends.
