What we need to do for God to listen to our prayers

People are always asking for prayers, in moment of crisis, tragedies, hardships of any kind,,
But..do we need to do something, prior to pray to the God, Almighty?
Is there anything we have to fulfill first, so we make sure that our prayers will have full impact?
For clarification, we will go again to the Word of God:

2 Chronicles 7:14

and if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
