Knowledge of God's word is a crucial part of the Christian life. God tells us that the Israelites often perished for a lack of knowledge. This lack of knowledge led to them not knowing what honored God and dishonored him. They would pursue rituals that they thought would honor him, like burning incense on the high places, when in fact, those very acts dishonored God.

In the same way Christians today who forsake studying God's word will not know what please God and what does not please him. If we don't know what honors God then we won't be able to pursue the things that do honor him and bring him glory.
