ALL ABOUT SRD DOGS.
ALL ABOUT SRD DOGS
Cheerful, versatile, diverse, and full of love to give, the SRD (No Defined Breed - the popular "mutt") is thus known for being a mixture of breeds, and it is precisely this fact that makes him a unique pet. Want to know everything about SRD?
The origin of the SRD is unknown, but in terms of ancestry it can be said that the mongrel has the same origin as all dogs, that is, they are descendants of wild wolves. As for the name of the breed, it is believed that the term came about because many dogs and cats used to live on the streets and, in their struggle for survival, would rummage through cans or garbage bags looking for food.
Because of the variety of SRDs, the temperament of mutts is also diverse. In general, they are very smart, affectionate, playful, obedient, partners and able to adapt to various environments and situations.
Despite the different breeds that influence the mongrel, it is possible to find some similarities among them: most of them are medium-sized, weighing between 10 and 20 kg. The coat is usually short and of various colors.
With regard to SRD health, there is a myth that they are more resistant because they are a mixture of several breeds. Like any animal, they need basic care, such as vaccination, housebreaking, hygiene, physical activity, and a balanced and adequate diet.
As you may already know, mongrels are the animals most often sheltered in kennels run by NGOs for several reasons, among them the preference of some people for defined-breed pets. But like all dogs and cats, they also need, and deserve, a home where they can receive lots of love, care, food and medical attention. Moreover, with an SRD you have a unique pet, a companion with a lot of love to give and receive, in addition to its incredible loyalty to its guardian. What's more, you can save a life!
For this reason, in general, a SRD has an average life expectancy of 8.5 years, while a purebred dog has an average life expectancy of 6.7 years. But of course, this varies according to the size, care and genetic quality of each individual and not just the breed.
By adopting such a puppy, or even rescuing one directly from the streets, you are not only providing better living conditions for it, but you are also making it possible for protectors to offer it space, care, and resources.
