Black Soldier Fly Compost Bin Update!

Composting with Maggots! Gross, right? Not really.

Especially when those maggots are from the Black Soldier Fly. This fly is a disease free fly that repels species that may be disease vectors. The larvae will self harvest and can be fed off to livestock like poultry, pigs, and fish, or can be given to your pet insectivore reptiles. They have great nutritional value for animals, and are one of the fastest composters I've ever dealt with.

While they don't make much in the way of castings, compared to food intake, they do an excellent job at converting all that food waste into biomass.

I love having these around, and will hopefully be reaching out to folks for spent brewing grains and coffee grounds in order to set up a better bin for them in the future.
