The Coca-Cola recipe is considered to be one of the longest-held trade secrets in the world. Since its invention in 1886 by John Pemberton, Coca-Cola has become the most recognized soft drink beverage in the world.

The recipe for coke was not written down until 1919 when he used the secret formula as collateral for a loan needed by the company. When the loan was repaid in 1925, coke claims the secret formula was returned to Atlanta and stored at Trust Company Bank, where it remained for 86 years before the recent move to the World of Coca-Cola.

It is even rumoured that two Coke executives each only know half of the recipe, and they can't fly together on the same plane in case of emergency.

Coca-Cola has never patented its recipe because doing so would require the company to disclose the recipe to the patent office, which becomes a public record.
