Commissioner of Internal Revenue Charles Rettig will leave his post early next month, part of a planned departure that will end the attorney's four-year stint heading the IRS.
Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen on Friday announced that IRS Deputy Commissioner Douglas O'Donnell would take over Rettig's post. 
O'Donnell, a "career IRS employee," has "spent more than 36 years at the agency in a variety of roles," the Treasury said in the release.
