Living in a sinful world means there will always be people who wish to take advantage of others. In terms of debt, this means that there will be some who try to trick others into signing up for large amounts of debt with the intent to make as much money as possible off of their victims.

However, even in light of this we should not burden tax payers with the responsibilities of paying for these unjust debts. Instead it should be the responsibility of the debtor to forgive the debt. The Bible is clear that coerced charity is something that God hates. He instead loves a cheerful giver. That means that if someone benevolently desires to pay off another's student loans, then they are free to do so. That does not mean the tax payers should be forced to do it.

There is also a category for wicked men who apply heavy burdens to others knowingly. The scriptures charge the government with punishing evildoers and rewarding the righteous. This means that there must be times where debtors are punished by governments by forcing them to forgive the exorbitant debts they ensure others with. #christian #shorts
