The Meaning of Pain
Oh, that glorious pain.
Pain can be helpful and even healthy, yet most of us detest it and try to avoid it at all costs.
Let me share a story with you, it is a true story and it happened to me.
I grew up in a very rough environment and pain was nothing new to me, either my father belted me or I fought in school, streets filled with cops but pain was somehow, sweet.
I believed that I was a super hero but when no one noticed me, I cried, because pain is pain.
It hurts and it doesn’t go away quickly enough.
Fast forward, I was in military with a few years of war on my shoulders but yet my government decided to send me to a training camp in a quiet unique foreign military establishment.
On the entry door to the military barracks there is sign stating:
“Sweat saves blood” well that makes you think.
Then one night I was abruptly woken up from my sleep, with a bag over my head, my hands tied behind my back and kicked all the way from the 2nd or 3rd floor to the ground floor.
After a period of hostile “interrogation” type exercise where everything was not like in the reality show of “SAS Australia”.
All covered in blood and bruises, almost deaf I was told that pain does not exist and it is all in my head.
I could say that this is a true statement but pain is real, the only difference is what you will decide to do with that pain.
Cry or learn something from it! Move forward thinking YOUR GOAL AND YOUR PURPOSE!
Few other experiences can develop mental and physical toughness in the way that pain does.
It raises your threshold for discomfort, enabling you to be more open to experiences, take more chances, and change how you perceive suffering and failure.
Don't be afraid to feel suffering, make it a part of who you are and let it inspire you. I can tell you this from experience, because boxing is not painless at all.
You will improve greatly if you start to live by the proverb "What doesn't kill you only helps to make you stronger."
