Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Manitoba Regional Chief Cindy Woodhouse speaks with reporters about the federal government's decision to file a judicial review of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal's decision concerning the government's agreement to compensate First Nations children and families harmed by the underfunding of the on-reserve child welfare system. The tribunal announced on October 25 that it was rejecting the agreement on the grounds it did not meet all criteria. The AFN and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society filed a complaint with the CHRT in 2007 alleging that the child welfare system discriminated against First Nations children. Chief Woodhouse announces the AFN will also seek a judicial review to ensure the rights of children and their families are fully respected. She is also the AFN's lead negotiator for the agreement.
