Winter 2008-2009 Arctic Sea Ice Loss

During the winter of 2008-2009 much of the thickest ice in the Arctic Ocean was blown out of the Arctic Basin by wind. The ice drifted down the east side of Greenland into the Atlantic Ocean where it melted.
