Virginia Walmart shooting, multiple fatalities, the shooter is dead

Multiple people are dead and others are wounded after a shooting at a Walmart in Virginia, US, police say. 

 The number of dead and wounded is still unclear, but no more than 10 people have died, local media outlet WAVY reported.

Officers responded to a reported shooting at the Walmart on Sam's Circle on Tuesday shortly after 10pm local time, Chesapeake police spokesman Leo Kosinski said in a briefing.

Over 35 to 40 minutes, officers found multiple dead and injured people in the store, he said.

Police believe there was one shooter, who is dead, he said, and that the shooting had stopped when officers arrived.

He was unable to give an exact number of how many had been killed, but said "less than 10, right now".
