Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly and Belarussian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya deliver remarks ahead of their meeting on Parliament Hill. The exiled political figure – who is widely considered to have won the 2020 presidential election in her country – is visiting Canada for the first time to seek international support against Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko’s regime. Canada has announced that it is imposing further sanctions on the Lukashenko regime for facilitating and enabling Russia’s invasion and attempted annexation of Ukrainian territory. (November 22, 2022)
