The Two Gardeners: "Letting Go" is probably one of the lessons in this story that can teach both children and parents a valuable lesson. Children are undeniably very suggestible and sensitive, and there are times when you as a parent may not be willing to admit that a line needs to be drawn because children need to become independent. Here's a story that tells how difficult it is to learn to do something on your own and to rely on stronger roots. Once upon a time there were two neighbors who grew the same plants in their gardens. The neighbor was fussy and took great care of his plants. The other neighbor did what was required but let the plants grow as they pleased. One evening there was a violent storm, followed by heavy rain. The storm destroyed many plants. When the fussy neighbor woke up the next morning, he found the plants uprooted and destroyed. However, when the quieter neighbor woke up, he found his plants were still firmly rooted in the ground, having weathered the storm. The plant of a relaxed neighbor has learned to do everything on its own. So he did his job, put down deep roots and found a place for himself in the earth. That's how he weathered the storm. However, the fussy neighbor did everything for the plant and thereby did not accustom the plant to surviving on its own. Moral: Sooner or later you have to let go of the situation and become independent. If you don't stop worrying, nothing will work on its own.
