The number of deaths in South Korea from the COVID-19 pandemic, as of today, has surpassed 30-thousand as the country deals with another apparent wave of infections.
The 30-thousand figure was surpassed on Sunday with the addition of another 41 deaths.
According to the website Our World In Data, this total ranks South Korea 35th in the world in terms of deaths, but per million people, the death rate is lower than average.
The country has had a comparably higher number of infections overall, however, ranking 7th, which compared to the number of deaths, would seem to reflect the strength of its medical system in responding.
New infections on Sunday came to a little over 46-thousand.
Cases have actually declined, though, week on week, which is raising hopes that this winter wave could peak sooner than expected.
