On Eagle's Wings

Hello my friends. This video was produced to honour the memory of the crew and passengers of Cougar Flight 491, that crashed into the Atlantic ocean off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, on March 12, 2009, killing all but one of the eighteen souls on board.Show more

I was assigned as a court reporter to cover the inquiry that was held to investigate the cause of the accident. The first part of the inquiry was devoted to investigating the technical issues with the helicopter and survival suits that were both found to be problematic. It wasn't until I heard the chilling testimony of Robert Decker, the only survivor, and the impact statements of several family members of those who did not survive, that I became emotionally connected to this tragedy, and wrote the song that is featured in this video, called "On Eagle's Wings".
