JESSICA Manning, 28, from New Zealand, was born with heart disease. At 19 years old she went into heart failure, and then aged 22 she was diagnosed with liver disease. Both her organs deteriorated and finally, at 25 she had a heart and liver transplant. Jessica had a donor's heart put inside her and keeps her old heart in her wardrobe, which she uses to educate people on the importance of organ donation. Explaining her medical journey she said, "I've had five open heart surgeries, two pacemaker surgeries, one emergency lung surgery, and over 200 minor procedures throughout my life." In this episode of Born Different Jessica answers some of the most frequently asked questions she gets on social media. Some of the comments include, 'why did you choose to keep your heart?', 'it's gross and mouldy!' and, 'it looks like chicken'. In response to the critique of her old organ's appearance she said, "in my opinion, I think it looks like cookie dough". In an emotional moment, Jessica was asked, 'what would you do if someone stole your heart?' She admitted, "I would cry, I would honestly cry".
