How to Clean Your Dog's Ears or Puppy's Ears! Get the Gunk Out!

In this video, we show you how we like to do regular maintenance cleaning of our dog's ears or our clients' dog's ears when they come to stay with us for a doggy board and train program. Rubbing the inside of your dog's ears is a great way to bond with them. They have no fingers so they can't reach that spot themselves and so they enjoy it when you do it for them. Also, by rubbing the inside of their ear on the regular it gives you an opportunity to rub out any gunk, bond with them, and keep an eye out for any issues that might be popping up. If they wince when you rub them or you notice a bad smell you might want to take a closer look or take them to the vet to check for any issues like an ear infection, ear mites, foreign debris, or a cut that could be causing them discomfort.

For seriously dirty ears we have used hydrogen peroxide solution to break down heavier gunk and buildup. However, we strongly encourage the use of alcohol to help dissolve and evaporate any liquids that could be left lingering in their ear.
Dropping a small "capful" amount of alcohol down their ears after a shower or bath is also always a good idea to help evaporate any water that might have found its way down there.
