Meditdate.. Letting go of embarrassment and moving into confidence.

One morning I awoke early but not really enough. For some reason I did not set the alarm the night before.
I was supposed to be in Logan which is about 30 minutes from my home at 6:30. It was 6:30.
I was going to a conference and I needed to look nice. I quickly got up, thankfully I had showered the night before. I got ready in 30 minutes and was in my car and out the door.
I arrived an hour late. I had a great day and was totally enjoying the day, Until l her around 12:00. When some sweet kind woman came up to me and said, “Did you know that you have a brown boot and a black boot on?”
I looked down at my feet, I looked up at her and sure enough she was right.
I didn't even notice that in my rush to get out the door I had grabbed two different boots. They didn't even look the same.
All the sudden I was embarrassed, I felt the heat rise up to my face, my face felt so hot and red. Then I thought you were here half a day and did just fine, and you look just like you look right now.
I'm okay, so so what, I am wearing two different colored boots. I got through the rest of the day and joined the conference and the people there. We can change those moments into very positive ones.
Let's Define embarrassment a little bit differently. It is a feeling, like when you don't put your foot up quite high enough on the curve.
You catch yourself being overly aware of yourself, you look in the mirror and you got that hair sticking out.
It's a feeling of being uncomfortable or unsure of yourself. Usually that comes down to the fact that I don't have enough knowledge or maybe someone in the room knows more than me.
Embarrassment should be short-lived and able to laugh at. I think this is an important part about embarrassment; it should be short-lived. You feel that rise in heat. Then it goes away and afterwards you can laugh at it. I was able to laugh about that later.
When it's not short-lived it becomes guilt and shame and those are even deeper emotions that we need to get rid of.
If embarrassment helps me to be human it helps me to step out, to be able to feel confused or flustered. You know embarrassment might happen. When I recognize it, I can do something good about it.
3 minute meditation
First layer your own embarrassment
Second layer the embarrassment that was given to you
Third layer the embarrassment you have given others
We're going to do a scribble a meditation
Get a piece of paper, a crayon is awesome but if you don't have a crayon, you can use a marker pencil, pen, whatever you have that's handy.
Here's the trick to scribbling meditation: you do not raise your writing instrument off the paper for the whole 3 minutes. It doesn't matter what it looks like we're not going for anything pretty.
