China's President Xi arrives in Hong Kong for handover anniversary – BBC News

Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Hong Kong to mark 25 years since the former British colony returned to Beijing's rule.

Mr Xi was greeted by pupils holding flowers, waving flags and shouting ‘welcome’, although many are critical of China’s control over Hong Kong.

In a brief speech Mr Xi said "one country, two systems" - the governance model agreed for 50 years in the handover - "can ensure the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong".
