Update On The Homestead

In this video we are going to show you what we’ve been working on around the homestead!

Hey and welcome! We are Douglas and Keri! In May of 2022 we quit our jobs and sold our home near Denver, Colorado. We traveled for 3 months, then moved onto our off grid homestead property in Cochise County, Arizona in September 2022. Follow along with us as we build our off grid homestead property with our 2 rebels, Willow & Zoey and our kitty, Boo.

I (Keri) am back from visiting with my family and so glad to get on the property with Douglas! He did a great job of getting things set up while going it solo and his efforts are very much appreciated :)

A water truck was finally able to get to us and the two 1550 gallon cisterns were filled. We are still debating on whether or not to drill a well and appreciate all of your input on this!

The weather has started to cool down a bit which makes it so much nicer to work on projects. Douglas has been busy planting all of the trees and plants that we brought from Colorado as well as the ones we picked up here including several varieties of agave, pomegranate, olive, and a pineapple guava (sounds amazing, right?!). We brought irises that were from the house that I grew up in and I have transplanted them at every single other house (or apartment) I have lived in. They are very hardy and I am hoping they can adjust to the weather here.

Douglas also made a pretty cool tool holder out of a pallet and a couple of T posts and I started my off grid laundry set up which is close to being done…stay tuned for a separate video on that.

We also installed several solar lights around our temporary RV spot as well as some solar gate lights on the north and south entryways. We picked up the wood to build the gates and will be starting that shortly as well.

We have a little bit of barbed wire still to string up, but we are close to being done with that.

Douglas has also been enjoying using the tractor to refine the driveway and move a lot of rock to fortify some of driveway water crossings. He will be starting the planned swales soon too.

We have A LOT going on for sure, but it’s all good :) We also started talking about and researching crops to grow for profit that might do well here. We plan on running some trials and have talked about things like elephant garlic, lavender, cucumber, asparagus, leeks, and shallots. More to come on that as well.

We hope you and your’s are all doing well and if you or someone you love was impacted by the hurricanes in Florida, we are praying for their safety. Life can change so quickly, can’t it?! Be blessed :)
