South Bank Coke Ovens (SBCO) Dorman Long Tower
Music "slapewath" by cane creek, available here https://canecreek.bandcamp.com/track/slapewath
The building of Dorman long coke ovens in South bank Middlesbrough , building took place from 1952 to 1957.
The huge Coal bunker with the 'Dorman long' logo was local landmark and could be seen from the A66
In October 2015 the whole of Teeside steel works closed, SSI who owned the works was liquidated.
At 1.55 am 19th September 2021 the Dorman Long Tower was blew up as part of a demolition project against the wishes of many ex-workers and local residents who viewed it as a local landmark and monument to well over 150 years of steelmaking in the area. I for one wanted the tower to remain and seen the action as pure vandalism towards a heritage building.
